Professor Mathew Williams

Chief Scientific Adviser for Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, Scottish Government

Professor Williams is the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Scottish Government, providing independent science advice on environmental, agricultural, and rural economy matters. He also holds an academic position at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on environmental simulation models, carbon flow analysis, and optimising farming practices for soil carbon storage and climate resilience.

Professor Linda Lawton

Professor of Environmental Microbiology, Robert Gordon University

Professor Lawton is an Environmental Microbiologist specialising cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and the powerful toxins (cyanotoxins) that they produce in ponds, lakes and reservoirs.
This has led her to develop methods to detect the toxins so that people and animals can be protected.

Professor Andrew Millar

Chair of Systems Biology, University of Edinburgh

Professor Millar, the Chair of Systems Biology, has conducted extensive research on biological clocks in plants and algae. While he closed his experimental laboratory and research group in early 2019, his commitment to open research data management continues as the 'BioRDM team' at the University of Edinburgh.
He currently advises the Scottish Government on topics ranging from GMOs to nature-based solutions for climate change.
