SAB2 - Plant Epigenetics: From Models to Crops

Session Description
Epigenetics pervades every aspect of plant biology. Understanding plant epigenetics has the potential to revolutionise crop breeding by unlocking previously unattainable traits and providing new tools to interfere with gene expression.
Join us in this session to discuss the latest advances in epigenetics in model species and crops. We will explore the impact of epigenetics on plant development, environmental interactions as well as crop productivity, and examine the latest insights into the mechanisms of epigenetics.
Overall, this session aims to facilitate discussions on how to better transfer our knowledge from model species to crops in ways that will allow us to manipulate the epigenome for improved food security and climate resilience.
SAB3 - Reproductive senescence: How, what, when, and why?

Session Description
Reproduction is the key component of organism life histories. Across the tree of life, there is great variation in the onset, form, and pace at which age-related changes in reproductive performance occur. In this session, we will focus on both the evolutionary drivers and mechanisms underlying the occurrence of several aspects of reproductive senescence in a diverse range of taxa including plants; its variability, how and why it can differ in males and females, why in some species females live for a considerable proportion of time following the cessation of reproductive capacity, and effects of parental age at reproduction on offspring.
