Biology Week: National Spelling Bee 2024
A nation-wide spelling competition taking place during Biology Week
After a tremendous inaugural year, the National Spelling Bee returns in the Autumn term of 2024. Teachers are welcome to sign up their school and facilitate their students to take part from June 2024.
The competition is open to all UK and Channel Islands' secondary school students between the ages of 11-19 in all educational settings. The event is full adaptable to support students and maximise uptake.
Those who register will be provided with a list of words for students to practice. From this list, 20 words will be randomly selected for each age category. Students will be expected to write down these words for the qualifiers (best in year group).
After qualification, the finalists will say their spellings, like a proper spelling bee, against the clock. In the event of a tie-break across the lands (UK & Channel Islands), unseen words will be selected for spelling. Full rules and running suggestions will be emailed to teachers after sign-up closes. There are prizes to be won!
Please note: Students need to be signed up to take part by their teachers and cannot apply to take part by themselves.
The competition will commence in late September with an online final in Biology Week on Friday 11th October.
